Man Injured in Holstville, Long Island Truck Accident on Long Island Avenue

Long Island Police Searching for Truck Driver Involved in Holtsville Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident

Man Injured in Holstville, Long Island Truck Accident on Long Island Avenue

HOLTSVILLE, LONG ISLAND (August 27, 2025) – A pedestrian was injured in a Holtsville hit-and-run car accident along Long Island Avenue.

Long Island police officials are saying that the collision took place early Friday morning. A pickup truck struck a pedestrian and then collided with a commercial fence along Island Avenue.

The victim told authorities that he would follow up with his personal doctor. The truck involved in the crash caused damage to a “No Stopping” sign before fleeing the scene.

A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Long Island Car Accidents

Thousands of people are injured in hit-and-run collisions every year. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, “In 2016, there were 1,980 fatal hit-and-run crashes resulting in 2,049 fatalities. This is the highest annual number of hit-and-run fatalities or crashes recorded since NHTSA began compiling statistics on fatal motor vehicle crashes in 1975.” There are many different factors that could contribute to a pedestrian collision.

  • Pedestrian collisions are more likely to happen at night and during periods of reduced visibility.
  • Pedestrian collisions often involve drivers who were intoxicated.
  • Pedestrian collisions are much more likely when drivers are speeding and not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them.

Every driver must operate their vehicle with the care necessary to avoid collisions. They must be particularly cautious in any area with dense pedestrian traffic. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Crush injuries
  • Fractures
  • Head trauma
  • Death

Depending on the facts of any case, there could be multiple liable parties for a pedestrian accident. This is particularly true if a pickup truck or van was being used for commercial purposes at the time of a crash. These vehicles are routinely used to transport goods and for other business purposes. Any person that is injured in a pedestrian collision may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
