Child Injured in Monsey School Bus Accident

Child Seriously Injured After Falling From Moving School Bus in Monsey

Child Injured in Money School Bus Accident

MONSEY, NEW YORK (March 29, 2026) – A seven-year-old child was seriously injured in Monsey after they fell from the back of a moving school bus along 70 Main Street.

Rockland County officials are saying the accident occurred around 5 PM on Wednesday. A school bus was heading down Main Street when a child fell through the emergency latch door.

The child hit the roadway as another vehicle was approaching. Thankfully, that vehicle was able to stop before running over the child.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. A child was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment.

Liability for Rockland County School Bus Accidents

School districts in New York have a legal obligation to protect the children in their care from reasonably foreseeable sources of harm. Consider, for example, Brandy B. v Eden Cent. School Dist., 15 NY3d 297, 302. The court held, “It is well-settled that schools have a duty to adequately supervise their students, and will be held liable for foreseeable injuries proximately related to the absence of adequate supervision.” Several actions should be taken after any child is injured in a school bus accident.

  • The child should receive a thorough medical evaluation.
  • Any person that may have witnessed the incident should be interviewed.
  • The history of accidents across the school district should be studied.
  • Parents should contact an experienced personal injury attorney.

The vast majority of accidents involving children being injured in a school setting are preventable. They tend to involve situations where drivers are not paying adequate attention to the children in their care. Sadly, school districts will almost always deny any responsibility if a child is injured in their care. That is why it’s so important that these incidents are thoroughly investigated by an outside party. The family of any child injured in a school bus accident may be able to pursue damages through a personal injury claim.
