10 Injured in Brentwood, Long Island Carbon Monoxide Accident

Cause of Carbon Monoxide Leak at Long Island Apartment Remains Under Investigation

10 Injured in Long Island Carbon Monoxide Accident

BRENTWOOD, NEW YORK (April 28, 2025) – At least 10 people were hospitalized in a carbon monoxide accident at a Long Island apartment complex.

Long Island officials are saying that the incident took place around 7 AM on Thursday. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help all of the victims.

Two people were unconscious by the time emergency responders arrived at the scene. In all, at least 10 people were taken to the hospital.

Authorities suspect that a malfunctioning boil burner may have been the cause of the carbon monoxide leak. A full investigation into the accident remains ongoing.

Liability for Long Island Carbon Monoxide Accidents

Many people are injured in carbon monoxide accidents every year in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Each year, more than 400 Americans die from unintentional CO poisoning not linked to fires, more than 100,000 visit the emergency room, and more than 14,000 are hospitalized.” There are a number of potential sources that could create a carbon monoxide leak.

  • Furnaces and boil burners
  • Wood stove
  • Space heaters
  • Vehicles
  • Fireplaces

Property owners have a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. This requires them to comply with all fire and safety codes. It also requires that they perform periodic maintenance on essential equipment within their property. Water boilers, in particular, should be routinely inspected because they do pose a high risk of carbon monoxide leaks. It is important that certain steps are taken if any person is injured in a carbon monoxide leak.

  • They should seek immediate medical attention, even if they feel all right after exposure.
  • The source of the leak should be determined through an investigation.
  • All medical records related to injuries should be preserved.
  • Accident victims should seek the guidance of an experienced premises liability attorney.

It can be hard to know where to begin if you’ve been injured in a carbon monoxide leak. Many of the injuries associated with CO exposure may not be immediately obvious. It is relatively common for victims to suffer neurological complications as a result of the exposure. Any person that is injured in a carbon monoxide accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
