Worker Killed In Somers Landscaping Accident with Falling Tree

31-Year-Old Worker From Ossining Died After Being Hit By Falling Tree in the Town of Somers

Worker Killed In Somers Landscaping Accident with Falling Tree

SOMERS, NEW YORK (July 12, 2025) – A worker has tragically died in a Somers workplace accident after being hit by a falling tree at a home in the Town of Somers.

Somers officials are saying that the accident took place around 4:03 p.m. on June 23. A worker was performing some type of tree removal service for a landscaping company.

At some point during the task, a worker was hit by a falling tree branch and seriously injured in the process. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim.

A 31-year-old worker was transported to a local medical facility, where he died due to the severe nature of his injuries.

Liability for Somers Workplace Accident

Many workers are injured in the tree care industry every year. According to TCI Magazine, “The BLS used these numbers to calculate a preliminary rate estimate, however, and reported a fatality rate of 110 per 100,000 tree trimmers and pruners. This rate is about 30 times higher than the all-industry average.” Tree removal companies should take many measures to keep workers safe.

  • Tree removal companies should ensure that all of their workers are properly trained in climbing, rigging, chainsaw use, and electrical hazards.
  • Tree removal companies should provide all of their workers with personal protective equipment.
  • Tree removal companies should ensure that all of their workers have access to fall protection.

All companies in New York have a legal obligation to take certain measures to keep their workers safe. As a general principle, building owners and general contractors can be held strictly liable for gravity-related incidents under the state’s labor laws. This includes instances when a worker falls or is struck by a falling object. Victims of workplace accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

The vast majority of workplace accidents are totally preventable. They tend to involve situations where safety regulations are being violated. This could include situations where workers are not given fall protection. It is essential that workers and their families understand that they do have rights. They are able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
