Worker Injured In Scaffold Fall at Teaneck Construction Site

TEANECK, NEW JERSEY (December 20, 2024) – A worker was injured after the scaffold that they were on collapsed at a Teaneck construction site.

Teaneck officials are saying that the incident took place on Friday afternoon. Two construction workers were on the scaffold when it began to collapse.

One worker was able to escape by jumping into a nearby window. The other worker fell 30 feet as the scaffold collapsed beneath them.

Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center in order to receive care.

Liability for Teaneck Construction Accidents

Falls remain one of the leading causes of serious injury and death at construction sites. Many of these accidents involve falls from scaffolds. According to OSHA, “An estimated 2.3 million construction workers, or 65 percent of the construction industry, work on scaffolds frequently. Protecting these workers from scaffold- related accidents would prevent 4,500 injuries and 50 deaths every year …” There are a number of factors that may contribute to a scaffold accident.

  • Scaffold accidents are more likely when scaffolds lack key safety features like guardrails or cross bracing.
  • Scaffold accidents are more likely when scaffolds are made from damaged or worn-out parts.
  • Scaffold accidents are more likely if scaffolds are not regularly inspected to identify safety hazards.

Construction companies have a legal obligation to make construction sites reasonably safe. Depending on the unique facts of any case, there could be numerous sources of liability for a construction accident. If an entity separate from a worker’s employer contributed to a scaffold accident, this could form the basis of a third-party liability claim. Victims of scaffold accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Construction accidents are often very difficult for workers to deal with. They may need to take long periods of time away from work. They may also be burdened with ongoing medical costs. It is important that accident victims understand that they do have rights. They are able to seek some measure of justice through a personal injury claim.
