Several Pedestrian Injured In Manhattan Wrong-Way Car Accident

Several Pedestrians Injured After Suspect Being Pursued By Police Crashed By 34th Street and Seventh Avenue

Several Pedestrian Injured In Manhattan Wrong-Way Car Accident

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (June 1, 2024) – Multiple people were injured in a Manhattan wrong-way car accident following a police pursuit by 34th Street and Seventh Avenue.

New York City police officials are saying that the collision took place around 1:30 a.m. on Monday. Officers flagged down two people who got into a fight.

One of the suspects got into a car and drove down Seventh Avenue in the wrong direction. That driver ended up hitting multiple pedestrians before coming to a stop.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help all of the victims. Multiple pedestrians were injured, including one woman who was pinned to a food truck.

A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Manhattan Car Accidents

Speeding remains one of the leading causes of car accidents in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “For more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. In 2020, speeding was a contributing factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities.” Drivers should take a number of measures to prevent collisions.

  • Drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
  • Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.
  • Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.

A police department could potentially face liability for any collision. In particular, liability may occur when officers display a reckless disregard for the safety of the public. This could include instances when officers chased suspects through densely populated pedestrian areas. Victims of pedestrian collisions often suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Organ damage

It is important that evidence is properly preserved after any car accident. Evidence will ultimately reveal who was at fault, regardless of what any person may claim. Sadly, though, drivers and their insurance providers will often do everything in their power to deny liability for a crash. Any person injured in a Manhattan collision may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
