Liability For Brooklyn Scooter Accidents
Pedestrians lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are much more likely to be overlooked. According to one report from the New York City Department of Transportation, “Pedestrians are 10 times more likely to die than a motor vehicle occupant in the event of a crash. Serious pedestrian crashes are about two-thirds deadlier on major street corridors than on smaller local streets.” Drivers should take a number of steps in order to avoid hitting pedestrians.
- Drivers should check their blind spots before turning.
- Drivers should be well rested before heading out onto the road.
- Drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them.
Drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a scooter rider, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The family of any person that died in a pedestrian collision may have legal recourse through a civil claim. A personal injury attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your options are.
