BMW and Pickup Truck Involved in Deadly Bronx Collision by Eastchester Road and Givan Avenue

Pedestrian Killed In Bronx Collision by Eastchester Road

BRONX, NEW YORK (December 7, 2024) – A 60-year-old man has tragically died in a Bronx collision near the intersection of Eastchester Road and Givan Avenue.

New York City officials are saying the collision took place on Saturday. A BMW collided with a pickup truck at the intersection.

That crash caused the driver to run into four other empty cars and one pedestrian. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim.

The pedestrian was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/ Jacobi where he died due to his injuries. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Bronx Pedestrian Accidents

Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured in pedestrian accidents every year. According to the National Safety Council, “While pedestrians accounted for about 17.7% of traffic deaths in 2022, this percent varies by age. Pedestrians represent 19% or more of traffic deaths among 35- to 74-year-olds. The largest number of pedestrian deaths occur among 35- to 44-year olds and 55- to 64-year-olds (1,351 each).” Cities should take a number of measures to prevent pedestrian collisions.

  • Cities should ensure that intersections are well illuminated.
  • Cities should install traffic calming measures in areas known for speeding.
  • Cities should heavily enforce traffic infractions likely to lead to pedestrian accidents.

Drivers must take reasonable steps in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. They must slow down at intersections and use their horns when necessary to alert pedestrians of their presence. If a driver fails to slow down in order to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any pedestrian accident.

  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be sought.
  • A personal injury attorney should be contacted.

It can be hard to know where to begin after any pedestrian accident. To make matters worse, drivers and their insurance providers will often do everything in their power to avoid responsibility. But it is important that accident victims understand that they do have rights. The family of any person who died in a pedestrian collision may have legal recourse through a civil claim.
