Motorcyclist Killed In Stony Brook DWI Car Accident

Investigation Underway After Motorcycle Driver Died in Collision With Intoxicated Driver in Stony Brook

Motorcyclist Killed In Stony Brook DWI Car Accident

STONY BROOK, LONG ISLAND (September 6, 2025) – One person has tragically died in a DWI car accident on Route 347 in Stony Brook.

Long Island police officials are saying that the collision took place around 12:22 a.m. on Saturday. A motorcyclist was heading westbound on Route 347 when they were involved in a collision with a GMC truck turning left.

Paramedics were called to the collision to help the victim. Sadly, the 24-year-old motorcyclist died due to the severity of his injuries.

Police arrested the 25-year-old driver of the GMC truck on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. A full investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Stony Brook DWI Car Accidents

Driver intoxication remains one of the leading causes of car accidents in New York. According to the New York State Police, “Drunk drivers cause more than 17,000 deaths annually. This equates to 310 funerals each week or one death every 30 minutes. In New York State slightly more than 30% of the fatal crashes are alcohol related.” Even modest amounts of alcohol can substantially impair drivers in the following ways.

  • Drivers are less able to remain in their own lanes of traffic when they are intoxicated.
  • Drivers’ reaction times are delayed if they are intoxicated.
  • Drivers are more likely to speed when they are intoxicated.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise the care necessary to avoid colliding with other vehicles. It is illegal for any person operating a motor vehicle to have a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or higher. If a driver collides with a vehicle while intoxicated, they could face criminal and civil liability for their actions. Victims of DWI car accidents tend to suffer serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

The vast majority of car accidents are preventable. This is particularly true when one driver is intoxicated. Unfortunately, drivers and their insurance providers will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility for any collision. This is why it is so important that accident victims seek the guidance of an experienced attorney. Any person injured in a car accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
