Motorcyclist Killed In Marine Park FDNY Truck Accident

Fire Truck May Have Been Responding to a Fire When It Was Involved In Fatal Marine Park Collision

Jamaica Cement Truck Accident

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (June 4, 2025) – A motorcyclist has tragically died in a Marine Park, Brooklyn fire truck accident by Flatbush Avenue and Avenue U.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 11:55 p.m. on Sunday. The fire truck may have been responding to a fire when it collided with a 30-year-old motorcyclist.

Paramedics were called to the scene to help the victim. He was transported to Brookdale University Hospital with major injuries.

Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Brooklyn Fire Truck Accidents

Many people are killed or seriously injured in accidents with emergency vehicles every year. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2023, 198 people died in crashes involving emergency vehicles. More than half of these deaths were occupants of non-emergency vehicles (57%). Deaths among pedestrians accounted for 23% of the total, while emergency vehicle drivers represented 11%, and emergency vehicle passengers accounted for about 7% of the deaths.” Emergency vehicles can be dangerous for several reasons.

  • They tend to operate at all times of the night and day when visibility is reduced.
  • Emergency drivers routinely speed and commit other dangerous traffic maneuvers.
  • Larger emergency vehicles like trucks and ambulances have blind spots that can obscure the presence of smaller vehicles and pedestrians.

All truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise caution to avoid hitting pedestrians. Emergency vehicles tend to have a great deal of immunity from liability in collisions. But even they are not allowed to do whatever they want. If an emergency vehicle operator conducts their business with a reckless disregard for the safety of the public, this could form the basis of an liability claim. It is important that certain actions are taken after any truck accident.

  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • Medical records related to injuries should be preserved.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • An experienced truck accident attorney should be contacted.

It can be hard to know what to do after any truck accident. This is particularly true when a truck accident results in a fatality. To make matters worse, cities will often do everything in their power to avoid responsibility if one of their drivers is involved in a fatal collision. This is why it can be enormously helpful to speak with an experienced attorney.
