Investigation Underway After 50-Year-Old Man Died in Collision With Semi-Truck on the Long Island Expressway Near Flushing Meadows Corona Park
QUEENS, NEW YORK (April 11, 2026) – A 50-year-old man has tragically died in a Queens semi-truck accident on the Long Island Expressway by Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 4:30 AM on the westbound lane of the LIE. An 18-wheeler truck collided with the passenger vehicle that was previously involved in a collision with the center median.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. That person was transported to New York Presbyterian Queens Hospital to receive treatment.
Sadly, he later died at the hospital.
Liability for Queens Semi-Truck Accidents
Truck drivers must exercise due care to avoid colliding with any vehicle in the roadway. This necessitates that they maintain a safe follow distance with all vehicles ahead of them. Pursuant to NY Veh & Traf L § 1129, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.” Multiple actions should be taken after any truck accident.
- The police should be called to the scene as early as possible so that they can investigate.
- All medical records related to injuries should be collected.
- The family of any person who died should seek an independent review by a team experienced in accident reconstruction.
If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a vehicle, this could be construed as negligence. Even if a vehicle is stopped in the middle of a roadway, this does not relieve a driver of their duty of care to avoid collisions. Liability for a truck accident could extend beyond any driver determined to be at fault. For example, the company that the truck driver worked for could also be held at fault.
