30-Year-Old Victim Was Walking Along Pavement Before Fatal Box Truck Collision Along Fourth Avenue

30-Year-Old Pedestrian Died In Brooklyn Box Truck Crash

BROOKLYN, CALIFORNIA (January 14, 2024) – A pedestrian has tragically died after being hit by a box truck while walking on pavement on Fourth Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the collision took place around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The pedestrian was walking when they were hit by the large box truck.

Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim. He was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver remained and cooperated with police. A full investigation into the incident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Brooklyn Box Truck Accidents

Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Over 8,000 pedestrians were killed on our nation’s roads in crashes involving a motor vehicle in 2022. That’s about one death every 64 minutes.” There are a number of common causes of pedestrian accidents.

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Poor road conditions

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. Truck drivers and other people with a commercial license are held to a high standard. If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any pedestrian accident.

  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
  • A thorough investigation should be conducted.

Pedestrian accidents are often highly preventable. They tend to occur when drivers are distracted, speeding, or committing other traffic infractions. Sadly, though, drivers will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility for a collision. The family of any person who died in a truck accident may have legal recourse through a civil claim.
