Pedestrian Seriously Injured in East New York Car Accident

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN (February 12, 2026) – A pedestrian was seriously injured in an East New York, Brooklyn car accident near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Hegeman Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 10 AM on Sunday. A driver was heading down the road when they entered onto a sidewalk before hitting a pedestrian.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. A 71-year-old man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Police have since placed one person under arrest.

Liability for East New York Pedestrian Accidents

Drivers have a legal obligation to use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. According to New York Vehicle Code 1146, “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian ahead of them, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that leaves their lane of traffic and enters the sidewalk before colliding with a pedestrian. Any person injured due to the negligent actions of another driver might be able to pursue some measure of justice and accountability through a personal injury claim.
