Man Killed In Long Island Car Accident Involving Police Vehicle

Investigation Underway After Fatal Long Island Collision on Grand Boulevard in Deer Park

Man Killed In Long Island Car Accident Involving Police Vehicle

LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK (August 2, 2025) – A man has tragically died in a Long Island rollover car accident along Grand Boulevard in Deer Park.

Long Island officials are saying that the accident took place around 3:45 AM on Monday. A 56-year-old man was driving a Mini Cooper when it was involved in a collision with a Jeep traveling westbound on Grand Avenue.

Photos of the accident site show that a Suffolk County police vehicle was also involved in the crash. Paramedics were called to the scene to help all the victims.

Two people were injured in the crash, and the driver of the mini Cooper was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in critical condition.

Sadly, he later died at the hospital. A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing.

Liability for Long Island Car Accidents

Rollover collisions can be extremely dangerous. According to the IIHS, “A crash is classified as a rollover if the vehicle tips onto its side or roof at any time during the crash. The rollover may result from an impact with another vehicle or with a fixed object. Many rollovers occur after a vehicle leaves the roadway. A rollover may lead to occupants being ejected from the vehicle, increasing the likelihood of a fatality.” Certain vehicles are more likely to roll over.

  • Pickup trucks
  • Vans
  • Taller SUVs

All drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with other vehicles in the roadway. Many car accidents are the result of vehicles that make unsafe lane changes. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1128, a vehicle shall be driven entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from that lane until the driver has first ascertained that such a movement can be made with reasonable safety. If a driver turns into the path of another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Several other factors may contribute to a collision.

  • Collisions are more likely when drivers are speeding.
  • Collisions are more likely when drivers are intoxicated.
  • Collisions are more likely when drivers are distracted.

In many cases, liability for a car accident could extend beyond any driver. This is particularly true for rollover accidents. Many people are killed in rollover collisions because the roofs of their vehicles cave in. However, car roofs are supposed to be able to withstand certain amounts of force necessary to prevent the roof from being crushed. The family of any person killed in a Long Island collision may be able to see some measure of justice through a wrongful death claim.
