43-Year-Old Construction Worker Died After Shed Roof Suddenly Collapsed in Marine Park, Brooklyn

Construction Worker Died in Marine Park, Brooklyn Roof Collapse Accident

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (June 10, 2025) – A construction worker has tragically died in a Marine Park, Brooklyn accident at a construction site by Quentin Road and East 33rd Street.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 8:50 AM on Thursday. The construction worker was in a shed behind a two-story building.

For undetermined reasons, the roof of the shed suddenly collapsed. Firefighters were called to the scene in order to help the victim.

He was removed from the rubble but later died due to the severe nature of his injuries. Apparently, workers were performing repairs and installation for a refrigerator unit at the time of the accident.

A full investigation into the Marine Park construction accident remains ongoing.

Liability for New York City Construction Accidents

Many workers are killed or seriously injured every year across New York City. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Fatal work injuries totaled 69 in 2023 for New York City, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Regional Commissioner William J. Sibley noted that the number of work-related fatalities in New York City was down from the previous year.” The construction industry had the highest number of fatal accidents. Many different safety issues could contribute to a construction accident.

  • Workers may have had a lack of fall protection.
  • Workers may have been asked to complete tasks with unsafe tools or equipment.
  • Workers may not have been given adequate training to identify hazards.
  • Workers may have been asked to perform their job duties in unsafe environments.

Construction companies have a legal obligation to protect their workers from reasonably foreseeable sources of harm. If a construction site is in a dangerous condition, and this contributed to a worker’s injury, the owner or operator of that site could be liable. Pursuant to New York Labor Law 200, “All machinery, equipment, and devices in such places shall be so placed,
operated, guarded, and lighted as to provide reasonable and adequate
protection to all such persons.” There are many different ways that the construction site may be in a dangerous condition.

  • A construction site could potentially expose workers to live electrical wires.
  • A construction site may be cluttered with equipment that creates a tripping hazard.
  • A construction site may have flammable materials that are improperly stored.

Construction accidents are often largely preventable. They tend to be the results of companies that cut corners in terms of safety. Part of the problem is that construction projects can be very expensive. The longer a project stretches out, the more it can cost in terms of labor. It is therefore not uncommon for construction companies to cut corners with respect to rules that they deem unimportant.
