Construction Worker Died in Accident With Collapsing Parapet Wall in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn

OSHA Investigation Underway After Construction Worker Died After Wall Fell on Them at Garage in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn

Construction Worker Died in Accident With Collapsing Parapet Wall in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn

CYPRESS HILLS, NEW YORK (October 23, 2025) – A 58-year-old construction worker has tragically died in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn after being hit by a parapet wall.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place on Tuesday. The construction worker was in a garage at a property on Highland Boulevard.

The worker was apparently on the roof of the garage when the parapet wall collapsed on top of them. Paramedics were called to the scene to help the victim.

Sadly, the construction worker died due to their injuries. A full investigation into the Cypress Hills accident remains ongoing.

Liability for New York City Construction Accidents

The construction industry continues to be overrepresented in terms of the number of people who are killed or seriously injured every year. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “In 2023, about 1 in 5 (20.8 percent) workplace deaths occurred in the construction industry and 38.5 percent of these deaths were due to falls, slips, and trips. The construction industry accounted for 47.8 percent of all fatal falls, slips, and trips in 2023.” A number of measures should be taken to prevent construction accidents.

  • Construction workers should be provided with fall equipment.
  • Construction sites should be routinely inspected for safety hazards.
  • Construction workers should be trained to identify safety hazards.

Construction companies and general contractors can be liable for accidents at construction sites. Building owners and general contractors are strictly liable for gravity-related accidents under New York Labor Law 240. This includes instances when a worker falls or is struck by a falling object. There are a number of reasons that any wall at a construction site may inadvertently collapse.

  • The wall may have inadequate reinforcements.
  • The wall may have uneven mortar joints.
  • The wall may lack adequate lateral support.

It can be hard to know where to begin after any construction accident. Victims are often left with serious injuries. They may need to take extensive time away from work. They could also be left with high medical bills. Victims are able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim. Family members of deceased workers are also able to pursue claims through a civil action.
