Bicyclist Killed In Bronx Hit-And-Run Car Accident Near Bruckner Avenue

BRONX, NEW YORK (September 1, 2025) – A bicyclist has tragically died in a Bronx hit-and-run car accident near the intersection of Bruckner Avenue and Leggett Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the collision took place on August 26. A 31-year-old bicyclist was attempting to cross Bruckner Avenue when they were hit by a vehicle.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victims. Tragically, the woman involved in the accident was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Liability for Bronx Bicycle Accidents

Many bicyclists are killed or seriously injured in car accidents each year in the United States. According to the IIHS, “A total of 1,155 bicyclists were killed in crashes with motor vehicles in 2023, the highest number ever recorded. Bicyclist deaths have increased 15% since 1975, and have increased 86% since reaching their lowest point in 2010.” Drivers should take several actions to avoid collisions with bicyclists.

  • Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns at intersections.
  • Drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them for hazards.
  • Drivers should use their traffic signals and horns to alert others of their intentions.

Drivers have a legal obligation to operate with the caution and care necessary to avoid colliding with any pedestrian or cyclist in the roadway. When drivers failed to slow down to avoid colliding with a bicyclist, they could be held at fault through a civil claim. When drivers leave the scene of an injury collision, they could also face criminal liability for their actions. It is important that certain steps are taken after any bicycle accident.

  • The police should be called to the scene so that they can begin an investigation.
  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
  • Victims should seek a thorough medical evaluation.
  • A bicycle accident attorney should be contacted.

Bicycle accidents are often largely preventable. They tend to involve situations where drivers are disobeying traffic guidelines. This can include situations where drivers are distracted or intoxicated by some substance. Roughly 25% of all pedestrian collisions involve an intoxicated driver. The family of any bicyclist killed in a collision may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
