Liability For Bronx Car Accidents
Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the IIHS, “There were 42,514 deaths from motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2022. This corresponds to 12.8 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.33 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.” Drivers should take a number of measures in order to prevent collisions.
- Drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
- Drivers should use their turn signals before making turns.
- Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.
All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. They must not travel faster than would be safe or reasonable given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. If a driver fails to slow down in order to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Several different factors could contribute to a collision.
- Driver intoxication
- Inclement weather
- Poor road conditions
- left turns
It is estimated that 94% of all collisions involve some amount of driver error. In particular, many collisions involve drivers who fail to properly scan the road ahead of them. It is important that accident victims understand that they do have rights. The family of any person who died in a car accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
