Liability for Queens Bus Accidents
Buses safely transport millions of people to their destination every year. But many of these trips do result in an accident. According to The Journalist’s Resource, “on average, about 63,000 buses [of all kinds] are involved in an accident each year; about 14,000 result in an injured person, and 325 result in a fatal injury. About 50 passengers (including the driver) are killed, on average, in a given year.” There are a number of common causes of bus accidents.
- Bus accidents are more likely when drivers are not paying attention to the road ahead of them.
- Bus accidents are more likely when bus drivers fail to check their blind spots.
- Bus accidents are more likely during periods of inclement weather.
Buses are considered common carriers, and their drivers are held to a high standard in terms of safety. If a bus driver failed to slow down in order to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. In situations where a medical episode caused a bus accident, it is important to determine whether or not the bus driver’s employer knew about the potential danger and failed to act. Victims of bus accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Lacerations
- Spinal cord injuries
