Two Buses Collided on Ramp to Port Authority, Injuring Dozens of People

Port Authority Bus Terminal Accident Injured 30 People

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (July 25, 2025) – At least 30 people were injured in a bus accident on the ramp to the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place just before 9 AM between Dyer Avenue and 10th Ave. One bus apparently rear-ended another bus for undetermined reasons.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene to help all of the victims. In all, 27 people required hospitalization.

Many of the victims could be seen leaving the scene in stretchers or wearing neck braces. A full investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing.

Liability for Manhattan Bus Accidents

Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death for people across New York City. According to the New York Department of Health, “On average there were 1,098 deaths each year due to unintentional motor vehicle traffic-related injuries, killing 5.6 of every 100,000 New Yorkers. The rates were highest for males and New Yorkers ages 65 and older followed by those 20-24.” Several factors could contribute to any bus accident.

  • A large number of bus accidents are caused by one or more vehicles that are speeding.
  • Bus accidents are common at intersections, especially as bus drivers are making left-hand turns.
  • Bus accidents are substantially more likely during heavy traffic or inclement weather.

Bus companies are considered common carriers. Their drivers must operate with an abundance of caution to avoid causing harm to their passengers. To that end, they must maintain a safe follow distance with other vehicles. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1129, the driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than would be reasonable and prudent, having regard to the speed of the vehicle and the prevailing road conditions. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that rear-ends another vehicle ahead of them. Victims of bus accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

It can be hard to know what to do if you’ve been injured in a bus accident. Many accident victims may need to take extensive periods of time away from work. They could also be saddled with heavy medical bills. To make matters worse, bus companies will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility when they’re involved in a serious collision. This is why it’s so important for any person injured in a bus accident to seek the guidance of an experienced New York City bus accident attorney.
