20 People Injured In Union Transit Bus Collision

UNION, NEW JERSEY (October 30, 2024) – At least 20 people were injured after a Union head-on collision with a New Jersey Transit Bus on Stuyvesant Avenue.

Union police officials are saying that the collision took place around 7:20 a.m. on Friday. A New Jersey Transit bus was hit head-on by a BMW traveling in the opposite direction.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help all of the victims. They suffered a variety of injuries, including broken bones, facial injuries, neck pain, and general trauma.

A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Union Bus Accidents

Buses are typically very safe. But many people are still injured in collisions each year. According to the Journalist’s Resource, “about 63,000 buses [of all kinds] are involved in an accident each year; about 14,000 result in an injured person, and 325 result in a fatal injury.” There are a number of reasons that buses are more susceptible to collisions.

  • Buses have a wide turning radius and are more susceptible to being involved in side-impact collisions.
  • Buses take much longer to stop than passenger vehicles.
  • Buses have large blind spots that can obscure the presence of pedestrians and smaller vehicles.

All drivers have a legal obligation to take reasonable steps to avoid hitting other vehicles. There is a rebuttable presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that crosses into opposing lanes of traffic and hits another vehicle head-on. Victims of bus accidents should take a number of measures in order to preserve their rights.

  • They should seek medical care as early as possible.
  • They should gain access to the police report for the collision.
  • They should contact an experienced bus accident attorney.

There are a number of benefits that come with hiring a bus accident attorney. They can work to get victims compensation for their injuries and lost wages. There are no costs associated with hiring an attorney. They get paid entirely on a contingency fee basis. This means that they only get paid by the opposing party if they are able to successfully resolve your case.
