In an era when courtroom battles have the ability to shape New York’s legal and societal landscapes, Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C., strengthened its reputation for securing high- value resolutions on behalf of injury victims. But those results are also creating meaningful
change.
“We’re celebrating our 40th anniversary as a firm, and reached the $1 billion milestone for recoveries and we feel the same energy as if we just opened yesterday,” said GLK Senior Trial Partner Jeff S. Korek, who was named Best Lawyers® “Lawyer of the Year” in New York City for Medical Malpractice–Plaintiffs (2020) and Personal Injury Litigation–Plaintiffs (2016). Korek is a former president and long-standing Board Member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA), and a member of its prestigious LawPAC. “Our results send messages to public entities and well-funded defendants. The types of injury cases we handle have evolved and our growth is commensurate with those changes.”
A brief look at the cases GLK has resolved or litigated in the past year reflect the diversity of their practices. In 2024, the firm resolved a traumatic brain injury case, resulting in a $12.5 million settlement with the City of New York. The client, a married, working mother, was struck in 2021 by a NY Department of Transportation (NYDOT) vehicle, suffering extensive injuries, most notably to her head. Through trial prowess and video surveillance discovery, the firm demonstrated that the City and the NYDOT were clearly responsible for the collision. Due to her injuries, she sadly cannot return to her position as an accountant.
GLK is also active in major actions with nationwide impact. They are one of the most prominent firms representing Camp Lejeune victims against the federal government due to the site’s contaminated water, which injured thousands of service personnel and their families from 1953 to 1987.
The firm’s involvement in these distinct, yet crucial matters demonstrate why GLK was again in 2024 ranked Tier 1 in Medical Malpractice Law, Product Liability and Personal Injury Litigation for plaintiffs in New York City by Best Law Firms.
“We are continually honored by such high peer rankings,” said Senior Partner Edward H. Gersowitz. “They highlight the firm’s effectiveness in challenging negligent behaviors and setting new safety precedents. Further, they strengthen our leadership status among New York’s legal community.”
From the partners to the rising stars, GLK’s lawyers enhance the firm’s prestige thanks to their presence in and out of the courtroom.
Gersowitz secured several eight-figure results in recent years in various areas of injury law and proudly serves on the Board of Governors in New York State to the American Association of Justice. Partner Michael A. Fruhling also serves on the Board of Governors for the New Jersey Association for Justice, where he advocates for stronger laws that help consumers, medical malpractice and personal injury victims. He has been recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the best personal injury attorneys in New York City for 2023 and 2024, as well as by Best Lawyers for Medical Malpractice Law and Personal Injury Litigation since 2017. In 2023, he was named to the “Lawyers of Distinction” ranking, which appeared in the NY Times.
Jay W. Dankner and Edward P. Milstein, best known as founders of the trailblazing trial firm, Dankner & Milstein, P.C. joined the firm as of counsel to GLK in 2023, and have brought unparalleled knowledge and experience. Colleen Meenan, also of counsel to GLK, has provided invaluable contributions to its employment discrimination practice.
Korek’s daughter, Cydney Korek, rejoined the firm in 2023 as an associate. A former Assistant District Attorney, she recently concluded a clerkship with Judge Anthony Cannataro, Associate Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals. Cydney Korek and associates Anthony Makarov and Avinoam Laby are all recognized as “Ones To Watch” by Best Lawyers. Laby was also elected to serve as NYSTLA Secretary. Senior Associate Daniel Linson, who is recognized by Best Lawyers for Medical Malpractice Law and Personal Injury Litigation, heads up the firm’s Labor Law & Roadway Design cases.
“These lawyers exemplify what it takes to succeed as trial and injury advocates in New York, and will carry on GLK’s tradition of excellence,” Fruhling said. “With this level of talent rising in our ranks, we look forward to extending our track record of protecting consumers in the greater tri-state area for at least 40 more years.”
