BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (August 10, 2024) – At least seven people were injured in a Brooklyn MTA bus accident by the intersection of Malcolm X Boulevard and Gates Avenue.
New York City officials are saying that the collision took place around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Two vehicles collided on the roadway, and one of the vehicles was pushed into an MTA bus.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims. Multiple people were taken to the hospital in order to receive care.
Bus accidents remain alarmingly common across New York City. According to one report from the New York Post, “At least 2,520 people — or 2.7 per day — were injured [from 2015 – 2018], according to the MTA. At least 14 people died, including a 25-year-old skateboarder, a 62-year-old pedestrian, a 60-year-old motorist and a 70-year-old with a walker who was mutilated by a hit-and-run bus.” Several factors could contribute to bus accidents.
Bus companies are considered common carriers, and their drivers are held to a high standard in terms of safety. All bus drivers must slow down in order to avoid colliding with other vehicles. If a bus driver fails to slow down or makes an unsafe movement so as to contribute to an accident, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Several steps should be taken after any bus accident.
Bus accidents are largely preventable. They tend to involve situations where one or more drivers are simply not paying attention to the road ahead of them. Any person who is injured in an MTA bus accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim. A bus accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
We at Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Brooklyn MTA bus accident. It is our hope that all of the victims will be able to make a full recovery.
