Department of Transportation Worker Injured in Pittstown Along State Route 7

PITTSTOWN, NEW YORK (May 31, 2025) – A New York Department of Transportation worker was seriously injured in a Pittstown car accident near State Route 7 and Campbell Lane.

New York officials are saying that the accident took place around 2:15 PM on May 29. The DOT worker was hit by a vehicle and seriously injured in the process.

The worker was transported to the Albany Medical Center to receive treatment. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

Liability for New York Pedestrian Accidents

Many pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in motor vehicle accidents. According to the IIHS, “Deaths from motor vehicle crashes with pedestrians have increased 83% since reaching their low point in 2009 and account for 18% of crash fatalities. The rates of pedestrian crash deaths per 100,000 people are highest for people ages 20 and over.” Drivers should take several measures to prevent pedestrian accidents.

  • Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
  • Drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
  • Drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them for pedestrians and other hazards.

Drivers must use caution in order to avoid causing accidents. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, all drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians, bicyclists, and domestic animals in the roadway. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Pedestrian accidents are often highly preventable in the workplace. One of the measures that employers can take to prevent pedestrian accidents is setting up a designated work zone with traffic cones and all their measures to deter vehicles. Any person injured in a New York pedestrian accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
