58-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed In E-Scooter Collision While Crossing Near Targee Street
STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK (June 2, 2025) – A 58-year-old man has tragically died in a Staten Island pedestrian accident on Targee Street.
New York City officials are saying that the incident took place around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday. A pedestrian was in the vicinity of a bike lane when he was hit by an e-scooter.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim. Sadly, he later died due to the severe nature of his injuries.
A full investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.
Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured in collisions every year. According to the National Safety Council, “in 2023, most pedestrian traffic deaths occurred in urban settings (83%), on the open road (76%) versus intersections (24%), and during dark conditions with or without artificial lighting (74%). The largest number of pedestrian deaths occurs on Fridays (1,155), closely followed by Saturdays (1,150).” Drivers should take a number of measures in order to avoid hitting pedestrians.
All drivers have a legal obligation to use caution to avoid hitting pedestrians in the roadway. This may necessitate that they travel well below the stated speed limit, depending on the prevailing conditions. The vast majority of pedestrian accidents are preventable. If a driver fails to slow down in order to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain actions are taken after any pedestrian accident.
It can be hard to know where to begin if you’ve lost a loved one in a car accident. To make matters worse, drivers and their insurance providers will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility after any fatal collision. Accident victims must understand that they do have legal rights. In particular, the family of any person who died in a car accident may have legal recourse through a civil claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the pedestrian who died in this collision. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to authorities. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
