Van Drove Into Staten Island Laundromat Leaving Seven People Injured on South Avenue
STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK (May 31, 2025) – At least seven people were injured in a Staten Island car accident near the intersection of South Avenue and Arlington Place.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 7 PM on Tuesday. A van collided with a laundromat and injured several people in the process.
Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help all of the victims. At least two passengers inside the van and two pedestrians were among those injured in the accident.
A full investigation remains ongoing at this time. Sources believe that the driver of the van may have suffered a medical episode.
Speed remains one of the leading causes of car accidents in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2023, killing 11,775, or an average of over 32 people on a typical day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 10,541.” There are several other factors that may contribute to an accident.
All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. This may necessitate that they travel well below the speed limit during poor driving conditions. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with pedestrians or some fixed object, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain steps be taken after any car accident.
The vast majority of car accidents are totally preventable. They tend to occur when drivers are simply not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them. Sadly, drivers and their insurance providers will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility when they cause a serious accident. Any person injured in a car accident may be able to see some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Staten Island car accident. It is our sincere hope that they will be able to make a full recovery. This was a preventable collision that should not have taken place.
