Eastbound Van Failed to Yield While Turning Left Prior to Ontario Collision That Injured New York State Trooper
ONTARIO, NEW YORK (February 24, 2025) – A New York State trooper was injured in an Ontario car accident with a commercial van along State Route 104 by Knickerbocker Road.
Wayne County officials are saying that the accident took place around 12:30 PM on Tuesday. An eastbound van was making a left turn from State Route 104 onto Knickerbocker Road when it was involved in a collision with a New York State Police car.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. The trooper was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.
A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
Every driver has a legal responsibility to use caution to avoid collisions with other vehicles. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Several factors could contribute to any car accidents.
When a driver makes a left turn into the path of another vehicle, this could be construed as negligence. If a driver is working at the time of a collision, their employer could be held at fault. In general, employers can be liable for the wrongful actions of their workers. Any person injured in a car accident may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the trooper injured in this Ontario collision. It is our sincere hope that he will be able to make a full recovery. This was a preventable crash that should not have taken place. Any person with more information should reach out to the police.
