Male Pedestrian Died in Brooklyn Accident With Ford Transit Van on 18th Avenue
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (November 2, 2025) – A pedestrian has tragically died in a car accident with a Ford Transit van along 18th Avenue.
New York City officials are saying that the collision took place around 6:30 PM on Wednesday. Two pedestrians were walking when they were hit by a Ford Transit 250 van traveling northbound on 18th Ave.
The force of the impact knocked both victims to the ground. One pedestrian was transported to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The other victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The driver of the Ford Transit van stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
Car accidents remain one of the leading sources of serious injury and death for pedestrians across New York City and the United States. According to the IIHS, “A total of 7,314 pedestrian deaths occurred in 2023. Pedestrian fatalities account for 18% of all crash fatalities. Pedestrian deaths in 2023 have increased 78% since reaching their lowest point in 2009.” Drivers should take a number of measures to avoid colliding with pedestrians.
Drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with any person in the roadway. This necessitates that they maintain their vehicle at a safe speed at all times. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian in the roadway, this could be construed as negligence. It is important that evidence be properly preserved after any pedestrian accident.
Depending on the facts of any case, there could be numerous liable parties for any pedestrian accident. For example, a commercial vehicle may have hit a pedestrian. If a vehicle was being used for business purposes at the time of a crash, the company that owned or operated that vehicle could be held vicariously liable. Companies are liable for accidents involving their workers who were operating within the scope and course of their job duties.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the pedestrian killed in this Brooklyn van accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
