Suspect Taken Into Custody After Multi-Vehicle Collision on RFK Triborough Bridge That Injured Five People
QUEENS, NEW YORK (August 9, 2025) – At least five people were injured in a Queens car accident on the westbound lanes of the RFK Triborough Bridge.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 6:30 PM on Tuesday. One person is suspected of driving erratically before colliding with multiple vehicles.
That first car burst into flames, and an SUV overturned as a result of the crash. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene to help all of the victims.
At least five people were injured, and some were transported to Mount Sinai Queens. The driver suspected of operating their vehicle recklessly was arrested and taken into custody.
A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
Far too many people are seriously injured or killed in car accidents every year across New York City. Certain actions have been taken to prevent these accidents. According to the NYC Department of Transportation, “Over the past three years, the city implemented a record 5,765 intersection improvements that have bolstered safety. This includes measures to enhance visibility, reduce speeding, cause drivers to turn more slowly, and more. Last year alone, the agency completed upgrades at a record 2,688 intersections.” Drivers should take several actions to avoid collisions.
All drivers have a legal obligation to use caution to avoid collisions. They must operate their vehicle at a safe speed at all times. This may necessitate that they travel well below the stated speed limit, depending on traffic conditions. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any car accident.
Car accidents can have a devastating impact on people’s lives. Victims are often left with high medical bills and may need to take extensive periods of time away from work. To make matters worse, insurance providers often seek to undermine victims and cajole them into unfair settlement deals. This is why it is so important for any person injured in a car accident to seek out the guidance of an experienced attorney.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this accident on the RFK Triborough Bridge. Any person that may have more information about what happened should reach out to the NYPD. It is our sincere hope that all of the victims will be able to make a full recovery.
