Victim Was Attempting to Enter Bicycle Lane Before Midtown Collision Near East 53rd Street and Second Avenue
MIDTOWN, NEW YORK (August 9, 2025) – An e-scooter rider was critically injured in a Midtown, Manhattan accident near the intersection of 53rd Street and 2nd Avenue.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 2 AM on Friday. A scooter rider was attempting to enter the bicycle lane when he struck a curb and fell in the roadway.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene to help the victim. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
As scooters have become more popular, so too has the number of accidents involving these vehicles. According to UC San Francisco, “E-bicycle injuries doubled every year from 2017 to 2022, while e-scooter injuries rose by 45 percent each year. Injured e-riders tended to be slightly older and wore helmets less often than conventional riders.” Several factors contribute to these accidents.
Depending on the facts of any case, the company that manufactured a scooter could potentially be held at fault for a collision. Companies have a legal obligation to create products that are reasonably safe. They can be liable for any design defects that may have contributed to a scooter accident. In particular, a number of scooter accidents have been caused by stuck accelerators and collapsing stems. Any person injured in a scooter accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the scooter rider injured in this collision. It is our sincere hope that he will be able to make a full recovery. Any person that may have more information about what happened should reach out to investigators.
