Investigation Underway After Big Rig Truck Involved in Coney Island Bus Accident
CONEY ISLAND, NEW YORK (February 19, 2026)—At least five people were injured after a B36 bus was involved in a collision with a big rig in Coney Island.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 6:30 PM on Tuesday. A big rig truck with some type of elevated platform was involved in a collision with a bus.
Firefighters were called to the scene of the crash to help with victims. At least five people were injured in the crash and transported to a local area hospital.
A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
Many people are injured in bus accidents each year. According to The Journalist’s Resource, “On average, about 63,000 buses [of all kinds] are involved in an accident each year; about 14,000 result in an injured person, and 325 result in a fatal injury.” The victims of these collisions tend to suffer very serious injuries.
If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with the bus, this could be construed as negligence. The company that a truck driver worked for is also to be held at fault. Generally speaking, employers are vicariously liable for the actions of their workers who are operating within the scope of their job duties.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the victims of this New York bus accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. This was a preventable collision that should not have taken place.
