NYPD Investigating Serious Injury Car Accident in Staten Island Near Hylan Avenue and Nelson Avenue
STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK (February 20, 2026) – At least one person was seriously injured in a Staten Island car accident near the intersection of Hylan Avenue and Nelson Avenue.
New York City officials are saying the collision took place around 4:35 AM on Monday. Two drivers were heading through the intersection when they collided with one another.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help all of the victims. The force of the impact was so great that it sheared a large portion of one vehicle off.
One person was taken to the hospital to receive treatment.
Drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid causing accidents. Many collisions involve drivers that make dangerous left turns. According to New York Vehicle Code 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Many different factors could contribute to any car accident.
If a driver makes a dangerous turn into the path of another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. There could be several liable parties for any car accident. This may include a city if a dangerous road condition contributed to a crash. It is important that the victims of car accidents understand that they do have legal rights. They are able to seek some measure of justice through a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the person injured in this Staten Island car accident. It is our sincere hope that the victim will be able to make a full recovery. Any person with more information should reach out to the NYPD.
