Liability for Crown Heights Truck Accidents

Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured in truck accidents every year in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2023, 5,375 large trucks were involved in a fatal crash, an 8.4% decrease from 2022 but a 43% increase in the last 10 years. The involvement rate per 100 million large-truck miles traveled is down 8% from 2022, but up 22% in the last 10 years.” There are many factors that could contribute to any truck accident.

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Poor road conditions

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Liability for a truck accident could extend beyond any driver deemed to be at fault. If a truck driver was working at the time of a collision, the company that they worked for could also be held at fault. Generally speaking, employers can be liable for the wrongful actions of their employees who were working within the course and scope of their job duties.
