BRONX, NEW YORK (June 13, 2024) – Two people have tragically died in a Fordham, Bronx car accident on Fordham Avenue not far from Jerome Avenue.
New York City officials are saying that the collision took place around 4:00 a.m. on Saturday. A BMW collided with a Nissan, which caused the BMW to hit a subway platform pillar.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victims. Sadly, two people inside the BMW died due to their injuries.
A full investigation into the Fordham collision remains ongoing at this time.
Speeding remains one of the leading causes of car accidents in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “For more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. In 2022, speeding was a contributing factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities.” There are a number of serious consequences to speeding.
A large number of car accidents involve drivers who make dangerous left turns. According to New York Vehicle Code 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
It has been estimated that nearly 93% of all collisions involve some amount of human error. Sadly, though, at-fault drivers and their insurance providers will often do everything in their power to deny liability for collisions. This is one of the reasons it is so important to seek the guidance of a skilled attorney after any collision. The family of any person who died in a collision may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
We at Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. extend our deepest condolences to the family of the two people in the BMW who died in this collision. Any person who may have more information should reach out to the police. It is our sincere hope that measures are taken to prevent other tragedies like this.
