CYPRESS HILLS, BROOKLYN (September 6, 2025) – Two people have tragically died in a Cypress Hills, Brooklyn motorcycle accident near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Elton Street.
New York City officials are saying that the incident took place around 8:10 PM on Monday. A Mercedes SUV was turning left onto Elton Street when it was involved in a collision with a motorcycle.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victims. A 42-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were both ejected from the motorcycle.
Sadly, both died due to the severe nature of their injuries. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Motorcyclists have a naturally small profile and are more vulnerable to being injured in accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “Although motorcycles make up only 3% of all registered vehicles and 0.6% of all vehicle miles traveled in the United States, motorcyclists accounted for 15.5% of all traffic fatalities and 3.4% of all injuries in 2023.” Drivers should take several measures to avoid hitting motorcycles.
Every driver has a legal obligation to use caution to avoid fighting with any motorcycle in the roadway. According to New York Vehicle Code 1180, no person shall operate their vehicle upon a roadway at a speed greater than would be reasonable and prudent given the prevailing history of the roadway. It is important that certain actions are taken after any motorcycle accident.
The vast majority of motorcycle accidents are preventable. They tend to involve drivers that are making dangerous left turns. If a driver makes an unsafe left turn into the path of a motorcyclist, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The family of any person killed in a motorcycle accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the families of the two people killed in this Cypress Hills accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
