Speeding remains one of the most common causes of fatal vehicle collisions in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “In 2021 there were 12,330 fatalities in speeding-related crashes, 29 percent of total traffic fatalities for the year and an increase of 8 percent from 11,428 in 2020, the highest since 2007.” Speeding can make collisions more likely in a number of different ways.
Every driver in New Jersey must exercise due care to avoid colliding with other vehicles. They must continuously scan the road ahead of them for hazards to slow down when necessary. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
Most crashes are entirely preventable. In fact, it has been estimated that 93% of all collisions involve some amount of human error. It is important that victims understand they do have legal options if they fall in a car accident. They are able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil action. This extends to the family of any victim who died in a collision. Surviving family members are able to hold negligent parties accountable through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to all of the families who lost loved ones in this horrific collision. Any person that may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. It is our sincere hope that steps are taken to make this stretch of road safer so that other tragedies can be averted.
