Investigation Underway After Fiery Car Accident Resulted In Three Fatalities In Long Island

LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK (June 2, 2025) – At least three people have tragically died in a Long Island car accident after an SUV burst into flames on Stymus Avenue.

Long Island police officials are saying that the accident took place around 1 AM on Sunday. An SUV was traveling down the road when it collided with a tree.

The force of the impact caused the SUV to burst into flames. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims.

Sadly, three people died due to the severe nature of their injuries. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Long Island Car Accidents

Speeding remains one of the most common causes of car accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2023, speeding-related deaths decreased by 3.1%, the second consecutive annual improvement. The percentage of deaths involving speeding (29%) is above the historic low set in 2019, when 26% of deaths involved speeding.” Several other factors could contribute to a car accident.

  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Poor road conditions
  • Drunk driving

Drivers must exercise care in order to avoid causing collisions with other vehicles. They must continuously scan the road ahead of them. There is a rebuttable presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that leaves their lane of traffic and collides with a fixed object. It is important that certain steps are taken after any car accident.

  • A police report of the incident should be created.
  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • Medical records related to the incident should be preserved.
  • An experienced attorney should be contacted.

Depending on the facts of any case, liability for a car accident could extend beyond any driver. The company that created a car could potentially be held at fault. This is particularly true if a vehicle catches fire after a car accident. The family of any person who died in a car accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
