CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY (June 2, 2025) – Dozens of people were injured after two buses and several vehicles collided on the New Jersey Turnpike in Chesterfield Township.
New Jersey police officials are saying that the accident took place around 1 PM on Sunday. One bus was rear-ended by another bus.

At least 39 people were injured in the chain reaction crash. They were taken to nearby hospitals in order to receive treatment.
A photo of the accident site shows one bus with major front-end damage.
Many people are injured in bus accidents each year. According to The Journalist’s Resource, “on average, about 63,000 buses [of all kinds] are involved in an accident each year; about 14,000 result in an injured person, and 325 result in a fatal injury. About 50 passengers (including the driver) are killed, on average, in a given year.” Bus companies should take several measures to prevent collisions.
Buses are considered common carriers and are held to a high standard in terms of safety. All bus drivers must exercise due care to avoid causing accidents. If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of bus accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
Victims of bus accidents do have legal rights. The FMCSA requires buses that can hold 16 or more passengers to have at least $5 million in liability coverage. Any person that is injured in a bus accident may be entitled to receive damages through a civil claim. These damages can help cover many of the injuries and financial losses commonly associated with car accidents. A bus accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal rights are.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people who have been injured in this bus accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to authorities. This was a preventable collision that should not have taken place.
