Several Injured In Upper East Side, Manhattan MTA Bus Accident

Four Injured in Collision Involving Taxi and MTA Bus on the Upper East Side by 745 Street and First Avenue

UPPER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN (March 9, 2025) – Four people were injured in an Upper East Side MTA bus accident near the intersection of E. 74th St. and First Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 7:30 AM on Friday. An MTA bus was involved in a collision with a taxi cab under uncertain circumstances.

Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help all of the victims. In total, four people were injured and taken to the hospital.

Both the driver of the taxi and the MTA bus remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Liability for Manhattan MTA Bus Accidents

Accidents involving MTA buses remain quite common. According to one report from the New York Post, “At least 2,520 people — or 2.7 per day — were injured [from 2015 – 2018], according to the MTA. At least 14 people died, including a 25-year-old skateboarder, a 62-year-old pedestrian, a 60-year-old motorist and a 70-year-old with a walker who was mutilated by a hit-and-run bus.” MTA bus drivers should take a number of actions in order to prevent collisions.

  • Bus drivers should check their blind spots before they make turns.
  • Bus drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.
  • Bus drivers should ensure that their vehicles are routinely inspected and well maintained.

All bus drivers have a legal obligation to use caution in order to avoid collisions. They must exercise due care and reduce their speed in order to avoid colliding with any pedestrian or vehicle in the roadway. If an MTA bus driver fails to slow down and hits another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Their employer could also potentially be held at fault for the collision. It is important that certain steps are taken after any bus accident.

  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • An experienced bus accident attorney should be contacted.

It could be hard to know where to begin if you’ve been injured in an MTA bus. For many victims, the extent of their injuries may not become obvious for several days or even weeks after any initial crash. It is essential that victims seek a thorough medical evaluation. After being evaluated, they should also consider speaking with an experienced personal injury attorney. An attorney can help accident victims get financial compensation for their injuries.
