MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (April 11, 2026) – Around 16 people were injured in a Manhattan Bridge bus accident, according to reporting by the New York City Fire Department.
New York City officials are saying that the accident occurred around 11:15 AM on Friday. A bus and passenger vehicle collided on the lower levels of the bridge for undetermined reasons.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help all of the victims. An estimated 16 people were injured in the collision, including one person who suffered a concussion.
Another person reportedly suffered broken bones. A full investigation into the potential cause of the accident remains ongoing.
Bus drivers must obtain a commercial license and are expected to operate with an abundance of caution to keep their passengers safe. Many collisions involve drivers that are following the lead vehicle too closely. According to NY Veh & Traf L § 1129, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.” Several steps should be taken after any bus accident.
Bus accidents routinely leave victims with catastrophic injuries. Unfortunately, bus companies will almost never accept responsibility if one of their drivers acts negligently and causes a serious crash. This is why it’s so important that these incidents are properly investigated by an outside party. Any person injured in a bus accident may be able to pursue damages through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the people injured in this Manhattan bus accident. It is our sincere hope that they will be able to make a full recovery. This was a preventable collision that should not have taken place.
