QUEENS, NEW YORK (July 12, 2024) – A moped rider was seriously injured in a Queens hit-and-run collision near the intersection of 29th Street and Broadway.
New York City police officials are saying that the collision took place around 6:00 p.m. in Astoria. A driver ran into a motorcyclist near some type of market.
The force of the impact caused the moped rider to be ejected. Surveillance footage revealed that the driver fled the scene of the collision.
Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim. The victim was taken to the hospital with major injuries.
A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
Hit-and-run collisions remain alarmingly common across New York and the United States. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, “In 2016, there were 1,980 fatal hit-and-run crashes resulting in 2,049 fatalities.
