Residential fires remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death in the United States. Apartment owners have a legal obligation to protect their residents from reasonably foreseeable accidents. They must be compliant with all fire codes. This may include installing fire extinguishers and fire escapes. If an apartment owner has actual or constructive notice of a dangerous condition with a property, they must take action. Failing to take action could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any apartment fire.
Apartment fires can be extremely hard on all involved. Victims may have to contend with serious injuries, high medical bills, and the loss of their home. It is important that victims of apartment fires understand that they do have rights. Any person injured in an apartment fire may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
