Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims. Both men were taken to a nearby hospital.

Far too many pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in pedestrian collisions across NYC. According to Streets Blog NYC, “The city is in the midst of a pedestrian death and injury spike, with 55 pedestrians killed between Jan. 1 and June 17, the second highest number through this point of the year since 2016, per the Department of Transportation’s numbers.” There are a number of measures that city officials can take to help reduce pedestrian collisions.
All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid pedestrian collisions. If a driver fails to slow down in order to avoid hitting pedestrians, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that evidence is properly preserved after any pedestrian collisions.
Pedestrian collisions are often highly preventable. They often involve situations where drivers are not properly paying attention to the road ahead of them. Sadly, though, drivers will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility if they injure someone. Any person injured in a pedestrian collision may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
We at Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. extend our deepest condolences to the family of the pedestrian killed in this collision. It is our hope that the other victim will be able to make a full recovery. This was a preventable tragedy that should not have taken place.
