Panama Central School District Bus Involved in Fatal Jamestown School Bus Collision With 4-Year-Old Girl
JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (December 2, 2025) – A 4-year-old girl has tragically died after being hit by a school bus in Jamestown near Milton J. Fletcher Elementary School.
Jamestown Police Department officials are saying that the accident took place around 8:10 a.m. on Monday. The girl was hit by the school bus for undetermined reasons.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and she later died due to the severe nature of her injuries.
School buses are typically very safe for their passengers. But they can pose a number of dangers to those in passenger vehicles. According to the National Safety Council, “School bus-related crashes killed 128 people nationwide in 2023, up 23% compared to the 104 deaths in 2022, according to National Safety Council (NSC) tabulations of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).” There are several reasons that school buses could be dangerous.
School buses in New York are considered common carriers. Their drivers are expected to exercise a great deal of care to avoid hitting pedestrians or causing harm to their passengers. If a school bus driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, the school district or private company that they work for could be held at fault. As a general principle, employers can be liable for the wrongful actions of their workers who were operating within the course and scope of their job duties.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the young child killed in this collision. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
