Wrong Way Collision on the New Jersey Turnpike Led to Fatal Semi-Truck Accident in Carneys Point Township
CARNEYS POINT TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY (October 20, 2025) – Four people have tragically died in a Carneys Point Township semi-truck accident along the New Jersey Turnpike.
New Jersey State Police are saying that the collision occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday. A Dodge pickup truck was headed northbound in the southbound lane of traffic when it collided with a Mazda SUV.
The force of the impact pushed the SUV into the path of a Freightliner truck. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victims.
Sadly, four people lost their lives in the crash. A full investigation into the Carneys Point Township crash remains ongoing.
Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in accidents with commercial trucks. According to the IIHS, “Most deaths in large truck crashes are passenger vehicle occupants. The main problem is the vulnerability of people traveling in smaller vehicles. Trucks often weigh 20-30 times as much as passenger cars and are taller with greater ground clearance, which can result in smaller vehicles underriding trucks in crashes.” Truck drivers should take several actions to prevent collisions.
Every person operating a motor vehicle in New Jersey has a legal obligation to exercise caution to avoid colliding with other vehicles. No person operating a motor vehicle shall travel at a speed greater than would be reasonable given the prevailing traffic and road conditions. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid another vehicle, this may be construed as negligence. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that enters into opposing lanes of traffic and hits another vehicle. Many factors could contribute to a collision.
It can be difficult to know what to do after any serious collision. Victims are often left with serious injuries and may need to take extensive periods of time away from work. Accident victims do have legal rights. They are able to seek accountability through a civil claim. This extends to the surviving family members of any person who died in a collision. Surviving family members are able to pursue justice through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to all of the families who lost loved ones in this Carneys Point Township truck accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
