Chain-Reaction Crash Involving Box Truck in Chelsea, Manhattan Leaves 8 Pedestrians Injured Near West 29th Street and West 30th Street
CHELSEA, MANHATTAN (October 21, 2025) – At least eight pedestrians were injured in a multi-vehicle car accident involving a box truck in Chelsea, by West 29th Street and West 30th Street.
New York City officials are saying that the collision occurred around 4 PM on Monday. The driver of a box truck was involved in a crash with a parked van.
The force of the impact pushed the vehicles onto the sidewalk. Several pedestrians were hit in the process.
An estimated 8 to 10 pedestrians were transported to Bellevue Hospital to receive treatment. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Far too many pedestrians are killed or seriously injured in accidents every year across New York. According to Transportation Alternatives, “Every week, 17 pedestrians lose limbs, organs, or suffer other life-changing serious injuries. In the first nine months of 2024, 645 pedestrians were seriously injured in New York City. This is a 13% increase from the same period in 2023, and a significant increase in four of the five boroughs.” Drivers should take several actions to avoid hitting pedestrians.
All drivers across New York have a legal obligation to use caution. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, all drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians, bicyclists, and domestic animals in the roadway. Any driver intending to turn left must first yield the right-of-way to any cyclist that is close enough to pose a hazard. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, this may be considered negligence. Victims of pedestrian collisions tend to suffer very serious injuries.
It can be difficult to know where to begin after any car accident in New York City. Victims may need to take long periods of time away from work. They may also be burdened with high medical bills. It is important for any person injured in a pedestrian accident to understand that they do have legal rights. They’re able to seek some measure of accountability in justice through a personal injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Chelsea car accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
