ALEXANDRIA, NEW JERSEY (July 20, 2025) – An 86-year-old man has tragically died in an Alexandria box truck accident along Route 519 not far from milepost 13.4.
Henderson County officials are saying that the collision took place on Tuesday afternoon. A man was driving north on Route 519 when he collided with the left side of a truck headed southbound.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. The driver of the box truck was not injured.
Sadly, the driver of the vehicle was beyond medical aid and died due to his injuries. A full investigation remains ongoing.
Trucks account for a relatively small number of the total vehicles on the roadway. But they are involved in a disproportionate number of fatal collisions. According to the National Safety Council, “More than half of fatal large-truck crashes occurred on rural roads and about a quarter on interstates. Sixty-two percent of the crashes happened during daylight hours, and 5.2% happened in construction zones. The peak month for fatal truck crashes was August and October, while February had the fewest crashes.” Many different factors could contribute to a truck accident.
Truck drivers must operate their vehicles with an abundance of caution to avoid colliding with other drivers. Many of these collisions involve drivers making dangerous left turns. In New Jersey, drivers must yield the right-of-way to traffic close enough to pose a hazard before making a left turn. If a truck driver pulls into the path of another vehicle while turning, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
Truck accidents are often highly preventable. They tend to involve truck drivers that are distracted or traveling too fast for the prevailing conditions. This is particularly true when drivers are making left turns. One of the unique dangers of trucks is that they have large blind spots. These can obscure the presence of other vehicles on the roadway.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man killed in this Alexandria truck accident. Any person that may have more information should reach out to the authorities. It is our sincere hope that steps are taken to make this stretch of road safer.
