Cyclist Killed In Queens Car Accident By 108th Street and 38th Avenue

Citi Bike Rider Died After Being Doored by Vehicle in Corona, Queens

QUEENS, NEW YORK (October 31, 2025) – A cyclist has tragically died in a Queens car accident near the intersection of 108th Street and 38th Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the collision took place around 6:40 p.m. on Monday.  The Citi Bike rider was heading down the road when the driver of a 2014 BMW opened their car door in front of them.

The force of the impact caused the cyclist to be ejected into the roadway. Emergency responders were called to the scene to help the victim.

Sadly, he later died due to the severe nature of his injuries. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Queens Car Accidents

Many cyclists are injured in collisions each year. According to the National Safety Council, “The number of preventable deaths from bicycle transportation incidents increased by 1% in 2023 and 53% in the last 10 years (from 902 in 2014 to 1,377 in 2023).” Cyclists run the risk of being seriously injured after being “doored” by vehicles. This refers to situations where a driver opens a car door into the path of a vehicle. Drivers should take certain measures to avoid injuring cyclists.

  • Drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
  • Drivers should use their turn signals to let others know of their intentions.
  • Drivers should check for cyclists before opening their car door.

If a driver opened their car door into the path of a cyclist, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Any person injured in such an accident may be able to pursue damages through a negligence claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering. Surviving family members are also able to pursue some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
