Subcontractor for South Jersey Transportation Authority Killed in Camden County Truck Accident on AC Expressway

CAMDEN COUNTY, NEW JERSEY (October 6, 2025) – A worker has tragically died in a Camden County construction accident on the Atlantic City Expressway.

Camden County officials are saying that the collision took place around 7:30 AM on Friday. A subcontractor for the South Jersey Transportation Authority was run over by a truck as it was backing up to pick up cones.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. Sadly, he died due to the severity of his injuries.

He was identified as a 31-year-old man from Egg Harbor Township. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Liability for New Jersey Truck Accidents

Car accidents remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death for workers in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “Injuries resulting from roadway incidents involving motorized land vehicles is the leading cause of work-related deaths. In 2023, 1,252 workers died and in 2021-2022, 68,560 DART cases including 54,830 DAFW cases were reported.” Construction companies should take many different steps to protect their workers from accidents at roadway worksites.

  • Construction companies should ensure that all of their workers are well trained.
  • Construction companies should ensure that worksites near the road are properly illuminated.
  • Construction companies should create designated paths for vehicles and pedestrians.

When a worker is injured in New Jersey, they or their family will typically have recourse through the workers’ compensation system. This is a no-fault insurance scheme. In addition to workers’ compensation, workers and surviving family members may be able to pursue civil actions through a third-party liability claim. There could be numerous sources of third-party liability for any construction accident.

  • General contractors could be liable for failing to maintain worksites in a reasonably safe condition.
  • The contractor responsible for driving a truck could also be held responsible if they hit a pedestrian.
  • Equipment manufacturers may be liable for an accident if it was caused by a defect with equipment.

It is imperative that construction companies abide by all OSHA regulations. Many workplace accidents can be prevented when workers are trained and supervised. Accidents become more common when workers are rushing to complete projects as quickly as possible. The family of any worker killed in an accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a personal injury claim.
