SUSSEX COUNTY, NEW JERSEY (July 30, 2025) – Several people were injured, including a 2-year-old child, in a Sussex County dump truck accident on Route 284.

The child was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. Several other people also sustained injuries in the crash.
A full investigation remains ongoing.
Commercial trucks can be incredibly dangerous for pedestrians and those in passenger vehicles. According to the IIHS, “A total of 4,354 people died in large truck crashes in 2023. Sixteen percent of these deaths were truck occupants, 65% were occupants of cars and other passenger vehicles, and 17% were pedestrians, bicyclists or motorcyclists.” There are many reasons that a dump truck collision may take place.
Truck drivers will typically need a commercial license and must operate with an abundance of caution. They are required to be intimately familiar with how their vehicle operates in all circumstances. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any truck driver that hits another vehicle after crossing into opposing lanes of traffic. Several actions should be taken after any truck accident.
Given the sheer size and weight of trucks, even a low-speed collision can potentially be catastrophic. Victims often sustain injuries that could take weeks or even months to heal. Many people are so seriously injured that they are left with permanent disabilities. Any person that is injured due to the negligent actions of a truck driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in the Sussex County dump truck accident. It is our sincere hope that they will be able to make a full recovery. This was a preventable collision that should not have taken place. Any person that may have more information should reach out to the New Jersey State Police.
